Since childhood, Evelyn Walker has been journaling and writing. Although, this was something she was passionate about, she never realized that this was something God was calling her to do. And even when she did realize it, she was too afraid of failing to do anything about it.

Evelyn’s first book was birthed last July 2013 in her classroom at the daycare where she teaches. During an unsuccessful nap-time period, she pulled the kids together for a quiet activity. They started drawing spiders and one of the kids told Ms Evelyn that her spider was fancy and so they agreed to call this spider “Fancy”. Through continued conversation with the kids during naptime, Evelyn penned much of her now published book, “Fancy Girl”. The rest was done within a week of that encounter and after reading it over and over to her granddaughter, who cracked up every time, she got further ideas to add to the book.

However, the book remained on Evelyn’s shelf until through conversations with her mentor, Candace Ford of CNF Ministries (, who asked Evelyn what God was telling her to do, the book came up and after reading it, Mrs. Ford advised Evelyn to publish it. This scared Evelyn. “Where would I get the funds from to do this?” “What if the book is a failure?” Those are just a couple of the questions that came to Evelyn and threatened to hinder her from moving forward. But thank God for the mentorship of Mrs. Ford, who encouraged Evelyn to “Release the Fear and Walk in Faith.” After much prompting, Evelyn finally trusted that God did give her this assignment.

Once Evelyn decided to push forward with her assignment, she solicited the help of her brother, David, who is an illustrator, to do the pictures for the book. As soon as that agreement was made, his computer crashed. The devil was not happy. But God is bigger than any mountain that we face. The computer was restored and people, some of whom she didn’t know or had just met, starting sowing into Evelyn’s life and into her book. The little faith she had mustered to begin this journey was now getting stronger and stronger. She now felt that God was honoring her for her obedience to Him and for believing that she could do it through Him. And the rest is history. “Fancy Girl” was published March 2014 and has sold over 150 copies and the sales continue!

Because Evelyn trusted God through the process and followed His leading, prophetic words have been spoken over the Fancy Girl book series and many are now being opened, including the opportunity to do Fancy Girl as a play! To God be the Glory!!!
